And what are the advantages-disadvantages of running defrag in locked mode or after the computer boots up entirely.

When doing a defrag of a sturdy drive, is it best to do it contained by out of danger mode?

Yes, you are better running it in undisruptive mode, as you have a fundamentally minimal amount of services etc running. Disable any screensavers prior to scanning. Those 2 things will create defrag do a better job and run faster.
